When Seconds Count: Keeping Communities Safe Through Rapid IT Response

Your team deals with real problems and emergencies. At SCW, we work hard to help you solve those problems with creative, urgent, and compliant solutions. This story highlights a recent, urgent need for a UPS from one of our customers to keep the 911 dispatch system up and running.

Late on a Friday afternoon, we received a call from a customer who had an urgent need for help; the county’s 911 dispatch system was at risk of going dark. The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that kept their servers running had failed. If they were to lose power or experience a blackout, the server would shut down, effectively leaving the county without 911 dispatch services. Not a situation that you want to happen in your community.

The obvious solution, overnight shipping, wouldn’t help as the order would not get there until Monday, leaving too much time to chance the possibility of a server shut down due to mother nature. That’s when our team at SCW got creative. We coordinated a same-day will-call pickup at a nearby distribution center. Within hours, a new UPS was delivered, installed, and powering the 911 dispatch system.

When our customers rely on powerful equipment to run and back-up critical infrastructure, is not just about the technology. It’s about trusting that your supplier partner understands the urgency, has the resourcefulness, and cares just as much as you do about your citizens and students. By moving quickly and thinking differently, we helped our customer to ensure uninterrupted emergency response services.

This story reflects a broader truth, whether in public safety, healthcare, or education, technology is no longer just about convenience, it’s about mission continuity. When downtime puts lives at risk, speed and reliability matter most. And sometimes, the biggest difference is made not by the equipment itself, but by the people who step up to solve the problem, including your IT team and the suppliers that they can rely on.
